Cafe Giảng, Hanoi is a must-visit for anyone trying Vietnamese egg coffee. The place is always busy, with people waiting downstairs for seating upstairs. The egg coffee is incredibly creamy and delicious, with a unique yet comforting taste. I tried egg coffee and really enjoyed it—rich, smooth, and unlike anything else. A truly iconic Hanoi café experience that’s worth the wait.

As far as I am aware of, the only coffee drink from Vietnam is Vietnamese coffee, the one with sweet condensed milk. I was pleasantly surprised that in Vietnam, Egg Coffee is actually even more popular. Groups and couples all line up at the ground floor waiting for a spot at the second floor. We got a table with cute stools at the corner with hardly any space for a backpack (we had to leave the stroller at the ground floor). We ordered Egg Coffee (hot) and Egg Cocoa (cold). I don't know how they do it but the egg made the coffee super creamy and delicious. The taste is unique but in a good way. I tried the Egg Cocoa, it was also creamy but the taste was a little more familiar like a weird ice cream. Too bad the green rice I wanted to order was already sold out. I would love to visit this place again to try their desserts and other drinks, you should too.

We got to try the original egg coffee at Café Giang. Despite its notoriety and location the prices are good. They even sell some desserts like croissants and choux but apparently these sell out early. Once you go inside, find a seat and wait for a server or hail one over. It's a busy place with small tables and stools, not a good place to bring your luggage. Service is fast and payment is downstairs at the cash register. I was excited to see a poster for a Café Giang opening in Yokohama. I'll definitely check it out!

The foam on the egg coffee is delicious – sip it first then stir and drink. The coffee itself is a bit bitter. I prefer iced one. There are loads of people and they order via a mobile system. However their seating arrangement isn’t very organised. If you ask for a seat staff might say none are available but if you insist they’ll somehow find you one. They’re friendly but a bit rushed.

We visited an excellent café where we tried the famous Vietnamese egg coffee as well as their traditional Vietnamese coffee, and both were absolutely delicious. You can immediately tell the place is highly recommended—there were lots of locals and tourists enjoying their drinks. The flavors were rich and unique, and I personally loved both coffees. Despite how crowded it was, the service was impressively fast and very friendly. Overall, it was a fantastic experience and definitely a spot worth visiting if you want to taste authentic Vietnamese coffee.

I came here nearly every morning for my daily dose of caffeine fix. I tried other places but the OG just simply tastes richer and more fulfilling. I had take out with my daily Bahn mi as my bf staple, and they always made sure it did not spill. Although it was not as warm as I liked itC the taste did not fail. I tried Egg coffee 5/5 - no words needed and a must have for any tiramisu fan! Cinnamon egg coffee 5/5 - because I like the cinnamon Salted coffee iced only - 4/5 cos I preferred it hot but the taste did not fail Coconut coffee iced only - 4.5/5. I was hesitant at first but I was surprised at the creamy taste. Last day I had it at the cafe itself - Cinnamon egg coffee - 5/5, the warm drink only added to the scent of cinnamon. Hot condensed milk coffee - 5/5 rich and not too sweet. Overall their coffees are not too sweet and come on an empty stomach if you are only coming for a single visit.

Tucked away in a narrow alley in Hanoi’s Old Quarter, it is easy to miss unless you’re looking for it. Inside, it’s particularly busy, with crowds stacked on small stools, tight spaces, and a constant stream of people coming in just to try the famous egg coffee. The egg coffee itself is more like a dessert than a drink. It’s thick, creamy, and sweet, with just a light hint of coffee underneath. The texture is rich, almost like melted tiramisu or custard in a cup. Overall it’s memorable, but not something you’d want every day unless you really like rich, sweet drinks. I’d say it’s trying at least once for the novelty and experience!

"The feeling of drinking liquid tiramisu has a 0% fishy smell." I visited Cafe Giang, the birthplace of the most famous egg coffee in Hanoi. There are countless copycat cafes, but you can immediately understand why this is the original place with just one sip. Taste & Texture There is no "fishy smell of eggs" that many people are worried about. Rather, it tastes like eating a very rich and savory custard cream or a luxurious tiramisu. The bitterness of the coffee and the sweetness of the cream create a perfect balance. As you can see in the picture, the cream is quite dense and thick. 2. Recommended menu and price (Menu & Price) Egg Coffee (Cafe Trứng - Hot): 40,000 VND. I definitely recommend the warm version. It comes out in a warm water bath and can be enjoyed gently until the very end. Egg Beer/Egg Cocoa: I recommend it if you want a different challenge, but classic is still the basic egg coffee. 3. Visit tips (Tips) Space: The entrance is narrow, but the interior is deep and spacious. It's good to feel the local atmosphere, but please note that low tables like bath chairs can be uncomfortable. How to drink: First, scoop up the cream with a spoon and taste it, then mix it with the strong coffee underneath. Conclusion: If you've come to Hanoi, it's a must-visit course, not an option. It's a taste that keeps coming to mind even after returning to Korea. I highly recommend it!
